GetBackers anime, a short review

Category : Anime

I was at Best Buy the other day when I decided to pick up an anime that I have not seen yet. As I was looking around I noticed a series called the GetBackers. I read the back of the box and it mainly said how the GetBackers will get anything back that was lost or stolen. That description did not really interest me much so I put it back. I looked around and didn’t see anything else that caught my eye, but for some reason I just had to see what the GetBackers was all about. I purchased it and the decision I made was well worth it.

The series consists of 2 partners, who also posses supernatural powers, Ginji Amano and Ban Mido who, will for a fee, get back anything lost or stolen from a client. Ginji (also known as the Lightning Emperor of the Limitless Fortress) has the power of generating thousands of volts of electricity from his body, from what Ban says ”like an electric eel.” Ban on the other hand has 2 special powers. The first is his ‘snake bite’ attack, which gives his hands a grip of 200kg. The other power is the ‘evil eye’ (or Jagan), and with this anyone who looks into Ban’s eyes can become vulnerable to a minute long nightmare.

Throughout the series not much is revealed about both of the GetBackers past, but bits and pieces along with flashback’s are shown however. Each of the GetBackers encounters people of the past and in some cases end up fighting against each other. This anime also has many great fight scenes that got me waiting to see what happens. The GetBackers also had comedy and humorous scenes, such as when Ginji becomes a little dwarf like character and sometimes stays like that for a while.

This anime is now one of my top 5 all time favorites. This is due to the great action, adventure, drama and hilarious comedy the anime portrays throughout the series. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys characters with supernatural powers and a blend of comedy.

Nice. This anime sounds like it is worth a watch. When I get back home I'll have a look at Best Buy to see if they have it available.
